'Negative City' examines Brooklyn's urban landscape and landmark structures, emphasizing the borough's low and open skylines, in turn implying the new buildings that unwaveringly fill in the spaces.

In HAVEMEYER STREET, viewers observe gentrification through the eyes of small business owners located on the Southside of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Havemeyer Street between Grand and South 4th Street. Havemeyer Street is a street in transition, where the evidence of change is visible from block to block. Each of the two channels shows one side of the street, moving down block by block. The varied experiences of business owners, attempting to survive the changes, interface with vignettes of the street and the businesses' utility as social spaces, to weave a portrait of a unique yet allegorical street.

Sean Hagerty and Siddharth Mehta form the Moniker:Red duo, mixing Indian rhythms and improvisation with live, multi-channel electronics. Place Panes illustrates a metaphoric city environment in which the sense of self is in constant flux. A fabricated, multi-media context shapes the actions of two on-stage musicians and is in turn reshaped by them. The piece represents an exploration of the relationship between people and environments, emotions and processes.

Naval has taken his search for ignored and forgotten places to a much larger area of Brooklyn. Traveling by bicycle, you can really find yourself off the beaten path, and that's just what he was looking for. Of course, there's plenty of well beaten territory in this compendium as well; just taken from NC's slightly skewed perspective. Colliding and blending with a melange of peculiar objects selected specifically for this event, Naval's special blend of Instant Cinema will tease moldy dreams and bittersweet memories from the dust of pocked streets, empty factories, and sagging traffic lights.

City Scars is a live video processing piece based on footage I collected in Brooklyn. I focused on urban sites where decay has allowed layers of old materials to peak through and overlay the new, such as graffiti combinations or crumbling subway walls, or any accidental textures that emerge as layers of the city aggregate. The piece takes place in three movements: 1) outdoor walls 2) subway windows 3) indoor walls.
